ABOUT US
MISSION STATEMENT
NYC Shorts celebrates the short form by showcasing provocative and
entertaining short films from around the world and screening at the
landmark Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space in New York City.
Created
by filmmakers David Barba, James Pellerito and Jennifer Pellerito, NYC
Shorts includes the following competition categories: drama, comedy,
documentary, lgbt,
student, foreign language, children's and animation.
Our
previous festivals have been artistic and commercial successes. The
quality of the films from the United States, Canada, Australia, Spain,
Switzerland, the UK, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland,
Norway, Slovenia, Portugal, Mexico, Brazil, Bolivia, China, India,
Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Iran was superb and we have been fortunate
enough to have filmmakers in attendance from as far as Germany, Canada,
the UK and across the US.

DAVID BARBACo-founder/Co-director NYC ShortsDavid Barba was born and raised in Mexico. He graduated from Stanford
University where he received his BA in Feminist Studies and then worked in the
film industries in London, New York and Mexico City. His films XP - recipient of a Sloan Foundation Production Grant - and
Adiós, para siempre, have screened around the world and garnered several festival
awards. He is a graduate of the two-year Meisner acting program with Suzanne Esper at the Esper Studio
in New York. David is currently in production on two feature
film documentaries and holds an MFA in Film Direction from the Columbia University
School of the Arts.
JENNIFER PELLERITOCo-founder/Co-director NYC ShortsJennifer Pellerito was born in Germany and raised in Italy. She
graduated from Colorado College where she studied German and Romance languages. She
worked internationally in Asia, Europe and Latin America in the fashion industry
for Polo Ralph Lauren. She is an award-winning producer of the critically
acclaimed film Maree (Tides), has written several screenplays and is currently
producing two feature film documentaries. Jennifer holds an MFA in Film Production from the Columbia
University School of the Arts.
JAMES PELLERITO Co-founder/Co-director NYC Shorts James Pellerito was born and raised in Italy. He graduated from
Columbia University where he studied film and art history and then worked in the Greek and Roman Art Department of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in
New York. His award winning film Maree (Tides) has screened in over 100 festivals
and will be broadcast on HBO in 2007. He is a graduate of the two-year Meisner acting
program with Richard Pinter of The Neighborhood Playhouse and is currently in
production on two feature film documentaries. He holds an MA in Humanities from
NYU and an MFA in Film Direction from the Columbia University School of the Arts.
BIGI EBBIN Marketing/Publicity Director NYC Shorts Bigi Ebbin is a native New Yorker. She graduated from American University in Washington D.C. with a BA from the School of Communication. For many years she worked as a Marketing Director for both Mercury and Columbia Records. She is a graduate of the two-year Meisner acting
program with Richard Pinter of The Neighborhood Playhouse. She is a freelance writer, actor and marketing professional.
